Hello, my name is Alan Davies and I live in Beckenham, Kent with my family. Along with about 100 other like minded individuals I have signed up for EnduroIndia 2010 . www.enduroindia.com
You would have thought that a man of my age and experience would have more sense, but no ….. in January 2010 I am going to board a plane bound for Goa where I’m aiming to ride across India on a motorbike of antique design, dodging manic traffic, rogue animals and crossing some fairly treacherous ground. I decided to do it because not only will it be the experience of a lifetime, but it is also a fantastic opportunity to raise as much money as possible for some very worthwhile charities.
This is a real challenge for me as although I passed my motorcycle test 40 years ago, until last year I had not been on a bike for 35 years . Last year, my wife Alison, gave me a Harley Davidson “Back to Biking Course” as a Christmas present. So I spent a fantastic 3 days in Mid Wales riding all the models and re-discovered a passion motorcycling .
In March this year I saw the ads for EuroIndia 2010. I haven’t been to India before and have always wanted to, so thought “wow, why not?” and signed up! A fantastic experience for me and an opportunity to help make a difference to the lives of those less fortunate than myself.
Having received all the information about the trip it dawned on me that this was no easy holiday but a real challenge . I realised that I would have to do some serious training if I wanted to successfully finish in one piece!
I am therefore now the proud owner of a Triumph Bonneville which I will be riding as much a possible to get myself to the stage where I will have the confidence to conquer all that India will throw at me . Admittedly, there aren’t too many cows or elephants wandering the roads of south east England, but I reckon if I can master the London rush hour and M25 I will cope .
I will be contacting all my family, friends, neighbours, business colleagues and contacts to ask for their support together with local companies and businesses to ask for sponsorship. A number of fundraising events are planned including a live band charity gig in September.
